Our friends at Chicks Climbing just let us know about a fantastic opportunity to get the next generation of female ice climbers involved in the sport now. Read on!

Have you ever wished you were introduced to the sport of ice climbing at a younger age? Are there any young women in your life you’d like to give that gift to?
I just came across an AMAZING opportunity for young women between the ages of 9-17 to be introduced to the sport of ice climbing at the Michigan Ice Fest. This opportunity is possible thanks to a scholarship from Down Wind Sports in honor of Sue Nott who passed away on the Infinite Spur of Alaska’s Mount Foraker with our dear friend Karen McNeill in 2006. Sue served as an instructor for two years during the Michigan Ice Fest, teaching women’s courses. The scholarship will include admission to the ice fest, instruction in the women’s course, as well as some other surprises! There will be 1-2 scholarships awarded each year.
Do you know a young girl who might be interested in learning how to ice climb? Please contact Michigan Ice if you would like details on how to apply for the Sue Nott Scholarship. I hope those of you that can will take advantage of the opportunity to introduce a young girl to a sport so many of us love!

I love it. I love anything that exposes young people to new experiences, ideas, cultures, activities - especially when it involves the outdoors. Sometimes even a non-skilled, but physically challenging event can be a huge self-confidence boost and/or bonding experience. Have any of you heard of via ferratas? A unique experience that has european roots, but can be found in a few places in the U.S. No experience necessary, but wicked cool experience! Some girl friends and I did the Via Ferrata at Nelson Rocks Outdoor Center in WVA. Highly recommended. They have a special Media Invite (for members of the media) - maybe OW would want to check it out....
Love to talk more about Via Ferrata. Checked out out online but want to hear your experience.... If you're following, let us know how we can get ahold of you. :)
